As soon as we confirmed our launch of the period-proof underwear, I was very excited for our customers to try them! The leak-free, breathable and absorbent material was set to revolutionise eco-friendly periods. But I knew that was just the beginning.

I am further pleased to announce that summer 2021's most wanted product from our customers is here: the period-proof swimwear! The american brand, Ruby Love, is now added to our platform; they are well-known for their period-proof underwear but also have a line dedicated to period-proof swimwear.
Needless to say I couldn’t wait to test them out. Below, you’ll find some technical information and my feelings after trying it out.
What is period-proof swimwear made of?
The secret of its absorbency lies in its 5 patented super absorbent layers:
- Dry-tech super soft mesh: it prevents all front, side and back leaks and it allows you, if you want, to add an extra safety with a mini cotton pad (washable and reusable). Insert it in the mesh, so it won’t move and it will double the absorbency. To feel super safe, they are double-sided, so you can use both sides.
- Super absorbent layer made of organic cotton, in contact with your intimate parts
- Patented absorbent layer, super absorbent but also breathable, to avoid smell and to keep you dry
- Another absorbent layer
- External fabric
I already know what you’re thinking: 5 layers?? It will look like a diaper! But no, they are 5 super thin layers that together look much thinner than a normal pad!
Ruby Love swimwear is made of body-safe and healthy materials, without PFAs, PULs (Polyurethane Laminate) or nano colloidal silver. As you probably already know, this aspect is hugely important for me.
All the layers that come into contact with your intimate parts are made of 100% organic cotton and the rest of it is made up of 80% nylon and 20% spandex (like most other swimwear).
How does it work?
The period-proof swimwear requires no additional support (like menstrual cups or tampons) and leaves behind no stains or smells.
Everyone has different flows so it’s difficult to confirm the length of time the swimwear can be worn. But for reference, Ruby Love swimwear can absorb up to 2 tampons and, by adding an extra pad, you will double the absorbency by 2 tampons!
When you feel it’s time to change your swimwear, place it in a bag as you would do with any other piece of clothing. Once you are home, you can choose to hand wash it with a neutral soap or machine wash it at 30°. Do not use the softener and avoid ironing, to preserve its absorbent properties.

How much does it absorb?
As I said before, the absorbency is around 2 tampons, but there are many different ways to use the period-proof swimwear, depending on what makes you more comfortable.
First of all, you can buy the washable and reusable pads, to insert them in the mesh of your swimwear - each Ruby Love piece has one. This can be found on pureeros. Thanks to this mini pad, you’ll have 2 more tampons!
Alternatively, you can still use a menstrual cup or tampon and wear period-proof underwear to double the safety.
Finally, I suggest that you test your period-proof swimwear for a few hours, during different days of your period, to understand how it works with your personal flow.

Sizes and models
Currently, we stock 2 kinds of bottoms available: a slip and a culotte. This can be easily matched with a top that you already have at home.
We also have a one-piece bathing suit, in three different models: a sporty one, a classic one and a more elegant blue one, one-shouldered with ruching.
Finally, we added a two-pieces black, for those people that want to be ready to get to the beach immediately.
We have Italian sizes from XS to 3XL. On each product page you’ll find a chart with the corresponding international and UK size, to help find your best fit.
